Raven, Wolf-Bird

Ravens are called wolf birds because of their close relationship with wolves. While helping to monitor wolves during WI Wolf Recovery Program I developed a friendship with a clever raven. This clever raven would fly over to where I was investigating wolf tracks. His wing beats gave his location away every time. Shotly therafter I would hear the call of a wild turkey. I would look up towards the directions of the turkey call to see the sneaky raven perched high on a tree looking at me and ever so innocently as well.

It is no wonder I began to call him Turkey. We had a friendship that lasted for five years. Remarkable bird!

Ravens have been known to mimic the calls of other animals.
