The Mission

The Red Cedar Watershed Ledger (RCWL) empowers individuals to actively support one another by fostering community-led citizen groups dedicated to creating safer, healthier local environments. Operating outside the bounds of traditional non-profits, the RCWL focuses on educating the public about environmental sustainability and ecological economics. Through this shared knowledge, community members learn practical ways to care for both their neighbors and their surroundings, ultimately promoting a balanced, harmonious relationship with nature.

We are producing a series of educational articles and interviews featuring city leaders, scientists, and residents to explore sustainable economic development in the region. What began as a grassroots effort by Menomonie residents to successfully pause a controversial data center has evolved into a broader mission championing environmentally conscious, community-driven economic growth.

We formed this media space to champion education, truth, and an inclusive dialogue. We exist because a fully informed public is essential. When intimidating tactics and gatekeeping dominate the local conversation, we step up to ensure every resident can be heard, educated, and united without fear or exclusion, and they can tell their stories.
