It’s not about prohibiting any hunting. However, the Senator’s bill is about (LRB-1453/1) “Prohibiting Contests for Killing Wild Animals” and providing a penalty. The following is from the bill. It’s about “organized” wildlife killing contests. It’s great to have bipartisan support and it won’t die if there’s no republican signers. Let’s wait to read the bill once it’s introduced.
Here’s what the senator put out to his legislative colleagues:
In Wisconsin, there is no prohibition to wildlife killing contests. These contests use various tactics to attract, manipulate, confuse, and even temporarily blind wildlife in order to kill as many animals as possible. Dogs, semi-automatic weapons, ATVs, traps, snares, and snowmobiles are often used in such contests, including participants chasing animals on snowmobiles to the point of exhaustion and running them over repeatedly.
Many hunters have condemned these contests as unethical and say they create a bad name for those who hunt ethically. This bill would prohibit all wildlife killing contests, much like laws in California and Vermont which prohibit predator killing contests.
It’s not about prohibiting hunting on public lands! Or any hunting. As the bill states: “Many hunters have condemned these contests as unethical and say they create a bad name for those who hunt ethically.”
#EndWildlifeKillingContests This violence being committed against wildlife is a crime against nature…
It’s a blight on our good name; our once environmentally progressive state. Wisconsin’s past environmental leaders, Aldo Leopold and Senator Gaylord Nelson, would not believe their eyes if they witnessed the following: coyote’s yelping in pain as they are being blown apart by wildlife killing contests participants using custom AR-15 style .223 rifles. Fancy high tech rifles like these set on tripods fire several rounds at multiple targets. That’s the fate of hundreds of coyote, bobcat and fox as they are tricked by electronic predator calls making sounds of rabbits in distress. Some are chased down by packs of hounds, and exhausted they stop & turn to defend themselves. Without mercy the pack of blood thirsty hounds tear them apart while contests participants watch & jeer the hounds to fight.
Please take action to support the bill to (LRB-1453/1) “Prohibiting Contests for Killing Wild Animals” and providing a penalty,
I spoke with Senator Fred Risser’s aid on Friday and they told me he will be introducing the bill to ban wildlife killing contests in our state. He has co-signers and there’s always room for more signers they told me. Senator Risser would like the Bill LRB-1453/1 to have more bipartisan support. He’s looking for more republican support, but will still introduce the bill even without a republican Representative. Call & email your representatives. Click the link: http://bit.ly/2GiSJYZ
